Ok, I'm finally back to report on my findings. First of all, the virtual disk I had was only 10GB... and some of that was swap... and given the large size of the MontanaLinux respin... and then the large amount of packages to update... I wonder if I ran into disk space issues. I doubt it... but I did have the question because the update went in two phases. Perhaps that is normal behavior but since this is the first time I've run preupgrade, I'm not sure.

So, after downloading everything for the upgrade and then rebooting into the upgrade application... it installed everything. I noticed that some things came from updates while other things that were in updates didn't get installed as part of the update. For example... oddly, KDE was updated to 4.2 (which is fairly new in updates) whereas OpenOffice was still 3.0 rather than 3.1.

After the upgrade was done... I logged into the system and saw that it needed a buttload of updates. This is what I'm referring to as part two of the upgrade. Those packages were in the updates repo the first time so why it waited to do them after the initial update I'm not sure.

Anyway, the upgrade from Fedora 9 to Fedora 10 seems to have gone quite well... even with a lot of third-party packages installed... and during that second phase it updated all of the third-party stuff.

I did notice that Firefox was broken... and gave an error about xpcom missing or something. I'm sure that was easily fixable... but I didn't bother to spend any time on it. Seamonkey and everything else I ran seemed to work fine.

TYL,
